The competitive logic of global architectural finishes is changing.

In the past, exterior wall material selection was mainly about aesthetics and price. Today, more and more projects set a “compliance threshold” at the tender stage – materials must provide carbon emission data, environmental certifications, and durability evidence. This threshold is pushing Flexible Stone / MCM Materials from an “alternative option” to the forefront.

I. The Rules in the Middle East Have Changed

Green building regulations in the Middle East are tightening rapidly.

Dubai’s Al Sa’fat Green Building Rating System has been upgraded to version 2.0. Starting from 2026, Silver rating becomes a mandatory requirement for all new building permits. The new rules require a minimum recycled material content of 20% for building materials, low-VOC interior finishes, and introduce a “Sustainable Materials Passport” as a mandatory document.

Abu Dhabi’s Estidama Pearl Rating System and Saudi Arabia’s SASO Green Building Code also set quantitative environmental performance requirements for materials.

What does this mean? It means that for a building material to enter a large-scale Middle Eastern project, price and appearance alone are no longer enough. It must answer three questions: What are the carbon emissions? Are there international environmental certifications? Can durability performance be supported by test data?

II. Compliance Advantages of Flexible Stone

On these issues, Flexible Stone’s parameters have a natural benchmark capability.

On the production side, Flexible Stone uses low-temperature forming technology, with energy consumption reduced by approximately 80% compared to traditional ceramics and carbon emissions about one-sixth of traditional ceramics. Cutting waste can be recycled.

On the product side, leading manufacturers have established complete third-party test data systems. Taking industry-standard products as an example: flexibility testing is based on ISO 24344:2008, with no cracking at 180° bending; formaldehyde emission is not detected; thermal conductivity is 0.074 W/(m·K), and thermal resistance is 0.078 (m²·K)/W.

These figures are not marketing claims – they are measured results that can be directly entered into project compliance documents. For project owners required to meet LEED, Estidama, or Al Sa’fat scoring requirements, this means Flexible Stone’s material score can “stand up to scrutiny”.

III. Policy Window in Egypt

The Egyptian market is also sending clear signals.

In December 2025, Egypt’s Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade, together with the Ministry of Finance, released the 2026 building materials tariff adjustment plan: import tariffs on LEED-compliant green building materials were reduced from 20%–30% to 10%, effective from January 1, 2026.

At the same time, Egypt explicitly requires government-invested projects to achieve LEED Silver green standards, and encourages large-scale government projects to adopt LEED Silver or higher. Major projects such as the New Administrative Capital and the Red Sea Bridge have been designated as targeted application scenarios for tariff-reduced products.

The policy direction is clear: green building materials entering Egypt’s major projects are gaining systematic cost advantages.

IV. Technological Iteration Makes Flexible Stone More Competitive

Flexible Stone’s competitiveness is not limited to compliance – the product itself is also iterating rapidly.

In texture reproduction, 3D digital inkjet and embossing integrated processes have matured. Taking 3D wood-grain Flexible Stone as an example, digital replication technology can reproduce the growth rings, knots, and grain texture of oak, walnut, and elm, with a subtle three-dimensional tactile surface – achieving both visual and tactile wood imitation, breaking away from the cheap look of ordinary flat printing.

In performance optimisation, the new generation of Flexible Stone has improved processes to address early issues such as efflorescence and colour difference control. It has also optimised water repellency and weather resistance. The product line covers stone imitation, wood grain, antique brick, and full-body quartz, adapting to exterior insulation integrated panels, irregular shapes, high-humidity and water-contact areas, and interior commercial fit-outs.

On the installation side, thin-bed dry installation continues to increase its share, generating less construction waste and shorter project timelines. This aligns with dust control requirements and renovation projects that cannot afford business interruption.

V. Export Data Tells One Story

Flexible Stone’s export performance in the Middle East is validating the above assessment.

The case of Yibin Bonawell New Materials Co., Ltd. is illustrative. In 2024, its overseas market was still blank; by 2025, export revenue exceeded RMB 3 million; in the first half of 2026, overseas sales of flexible stone materials reached 200,000 m², with sales of RMB 10 million. Its products now cover 36 countries across Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Europe, Africa, and the Americas.

“The ongoing geopolitical situation in the Middle East continues to affect global energy markets, driving up building material production costs. Overseas buyers have accurately anticipated this trend and are placing orders early to lock in prices.” Xunya Building Materials achieved year-on-year revenue growth of approximately 80% in Q1 2026, with its outdoor Flexible Stone series attracting significant attention from overseas buyers at the Canton Fair.

The logic behind the data: global building material costs are rising, while Flexible Stone’s lightweight properties – only 3–5 kg/m² and 2–6 mm thick – create sustained cost advantages in transportation and installation.

VI. What OlinMat Can Do

Flexible Stone’s compliance advantages need to be “translated” into documents project owners can use, and product performance needs to be “converted” into verifiable delivery. This bridging work is exactly what OlinMat does.

On the sourcing side, we connect directly with Chinese Flexible Stone factories, covering mainstream texture series including Slate, Travertine, Rammed Earth, Dacite, Hemp Weave, and Bamboo Weave. We can match product specifications and test reports according to the certification requirements of the project’s host country.

On the compliance side, we assist clients in organising product certification documents including CE, REACH, and SGS, and align with the material scoring requirements of LEED, Estidama, and other certification systems – reducing communication costs in the compliance process.

On the delivery side, we have a showroom and in-stock warehouse in Egypt. Customers can view samples on site, touch product texture, confirm specifications and colours, and take immediate delivery without waiting for a full sea freight cycle. From inquiry and sampling to order execution, our local team and China team work together.

On category synergy, in addition to Flexible Stone, we can also source wall stickers, LVT flooring, vinyl woven carpet, smart locks, and other building material categories – suitable for contractors and wholesalers with multi-category procurement needs.

We have a showroom and in-stock warehouse in Egypt. Building material buyers, wholesalers, project contractors, and design firms are welcome to visit, view samples, and discuss cooperation.
